Integrative Bodywork by Tanya Bryant

The cure of the part should not be attempted without treatment of the whole. No attempt should be made to cure the body without the soul.

Welcome to Breathing Space Bodywork

The space.

Breathing Space Bodywork is a single-room oasis located in a heritage building on the edge of Gastown, in Vancouver, BC. The room is clean and cozy and often smells of essential oils. Because the building is more than 100 years old, the windows are thin, and you may hear the sounds of people or traffic outside. Hopefully you’ll be so deep into the zone, you won’t even notice. The building does have an elevator (I am on the third floor) and there is an accessible washroom on the first floor. Please let me know if you require access.

The style.

The style of bodywork I practice is called Integrative Bodywork. Essentially, it’s an integration of all the modalities I have studied over the past 12 years. Your session will likely include aspects of Swedish massage, Joint Release, Indian Head Massage, Deep Tissue, Shiatsu, Reiki, Hydrotherapy, Reflexology and Deep Flow. Each session is unique and specific to your body.  Head over to the services page for details and pricing of the different treatment options I offer.

The approach.

Please note, this is not massage therapy. This is bodywork. I take a holistic approach to the body; my intention is full-body integration. I use a variety of modalities, tools and techniques to facilitate a sense of ease, mobility, and lightness in your body.  The work is deep and specific but the goal is for your whole being to integrate; nervous system included. Each treatment is a full-body treatment. I do not offer segmental sessions. Choose the appropriate duration if you have multiple areas of focus (90 minutes or 120 minutes).

I don't subscribe to the no-pain-no-gain theory; rather than forcing my way into your muscles (resulting in bruising and inflammation), I use heat and support (bolsters and pillows) to create an opportunity for your body to relax and receive deeper work. I work as deep as your tissues allow. Relax, breathe, and let go...in that order.
